Arizona's Proven Leader

About Greg Stanton

Donald Trump, MAGA extremists, and the billionaire class are trying to rig our politics and our economy for themselves. Arizona families deserve leaders who will stand up to them, defend our democracy, and fight for a state and a country where working people come first. Greg Stanton has spent his entire career doing exactly that.

From the Phoenix City Council to the mayor’s office to the United States Congress, Greg has built a record of standing with Arizona communities, taking on powerful interests, and delivering real results. People across Arizona know him as a leader who rolls up his sleeves, builds coalitions, and gets things done

Arizona Roots

Greg is the son of a public school teacher and a shoe salesman. Growing up in west Phoenix, he learned early that you show up for your neighbors, work hard, and never forget where you came from.

He graduated from Cortez High School before attending Marquette University, where he earned a degree in history and political science and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He later earned his law degree from the University of Michigan and returned home to Arizona, working as an education attorney before entering public service.

Those early lessons about community, responsibility, and fairness still guide his work today.

Fighting for Arizona in Congress

Since being elected to Congress in 2018, Greg has focused on lowering costs for working families, holding Donald Trump accountable, protecting democracy, securing Arizona's water future, and building an economy that works for everyone.

He led the fight to pass the Inflation Reduction Act and the CHIPS Act.  defended workers’ rights and women's rights, and continues to secure millions in federal investments to build infrastructure and to power Arizona’s next generation of jobs.

Greg serves on the Transportation & Infrastructure Committee, the Foreign Affairs Committee, and the Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party, where he works to strengthen Arizona’s economy and America’s global leadership.

In fact, his work has earned national recognition. In 2025, the Center for Effective Lawmaking named him the Most Effective Democrat on Transportation Policy, and the Arizona AFL-CIO honored him as Elected Leader of the Year for his advocacy on behalf of working families.

Transforming Phoenix as Mayor

Before serving in Congress, Greg was the Mayor of Phoenix from 2012 to 2018.

During his time as mayor, Phoenix experienced one of the strongest periods of economic growth in its history. Greg helped reshape the city’s economy around innovation, international trade, and advanced manufacturing, creating thousands of quality jobs.

He also secured voter approval for a historic transportation plan that expanded light rail, improved bus service, and modernized thousands of miles of roadways.

Greg built bipartisan coalitions to attract major bioscience and higher education investments, supported small businesses across the Valley, and helped position Phoenix as a national leader on sustainability and LGBTQ+ equality.

His leadership earned him recognition as one of Governing Magazine’s Public Officials of the Year.

Public Servant at Heart

Greg’s commitment to Arizona began long before he became mayor.

He served for nine years on the Phoenix City Council, representing neighborhoods across the city and focusing on public safety, economic development, and community investment.

Later, as Arizona’s Deputy Attorney General, he worked to crack down on mortgage fraud, fight predatory payday lending, and help protect the future of Luke Air Force Base. He also helped disrupt funding networks used by drug and human-trafficking cartels.

Across every role, Greg built a reputation as a pragmatic leader who stands up for Arizona communities and is willing to take on powerful interests when families are getting squeezed.

Husband & Father

Greg lives in Phoenix with his wife, Nicole, and their two children.

He flies home to Arizona every weekend because public service isn’t about Washington.

It’s about staying connected to the people he represents and fighting every day to deliver for them.
